Map Charts

Map Charts are useful for showing geographical patterns in statistical data.
Facts are plotted by means of geographical Maps whose Regions are differently colored depending of the amount of measures related to them.
The most trivial example is the presentation of turnover data distributed in the different selling Regions.

First of all, let us have a look.

Europe Chart Map

This European Map represents the simpler form of the Chart: only one measure is plotted and no other feature is switched on.
If you click on the picture you'll reach a living Demo.

Chart Map of Italy

Chart Maps are built in the same way of common plots; the only differences are the attributes "graphtype" (map) and "country".
In this case we have 3 Measures and a Scale (in the bottom) showing the ranges of values. The Scale can be changed dragging the triangle indicators.

Like all the others Charts, you can choose the palettes and customize colors, name and palette types. Any Chart feature can be dynamically changed.

If you click on the picture you can have a try.

Chart Map of Germany

All the figures have be supplied related to the geographical Regions.

Map Charts can be transformed in any other Chart Type, just editing the XML and changing the graphtype or country parameters.

If you change the country, it is necessary to change also the Region Names. Otherwise the system will assume that there are no data for the requested places.

If you click on the picture you'll reach a living Demo.

Map Chart of France

As you can see, each Region is colored in such a way to identify the statical range.
The percentage are calculated based on the min and max values supplied.

In the demo (click the picture) you can see that
  • all data is customizable through XML
  • More detailed statistical Figures are dynamically given in the Tooltip showed when a Region is pointed out with the mouse

Map Chart of Great Britain

This is the last map that we provided. Any other country can be added.
We limited our choice in order to maintain the Flash Object small and setup operations easy.

Now it is simple to find shapefiles for building any kind of map with the desired level of accuracy.
We found what we needed here.

Setup Instructions

Setting up these charts is very easy.

Detailed instruction (just same for the other Flash Charts) can be reached here.
